Purity Brewing launches Belgian-style raspberry sour beer

DBR Staff Writer Published 28 November 2017

UK-based craft brewery Purity Brewing has launched Maravilla Sour, a new limited edition Belgian-style luxury beer.

The beer has been made with locally available Maravilla raspberries, premium Maris Otter, Oat and Crystal malts, generously hopped with Godiva & Bullion.

The ruby red raspberry sour beer has a hint of crisp fruit tartness.

The small-batch beer has an alcohol by volume (ABV) of 6.5%. It will be limited only to 1200 bottles and will be available in Purity’s 750ml corked Champagne-style bottles.

Additionally, the brewery plans to sell 200 of 30litre kegs at 5.5% ABV for the on-trade.

Apart from the new beer, the company is also bringing back its other brands including Black IPA, Saddle Black for the winter at 5.8% of ABV.

Purity managing director Paul Halsey said: “We really enjoy creating these limited edition beers and over the years we’ve had some fantastic feedback.

“Maravilla Sour is a first of its kind for us; we’ve taken only the best Belgium triple yeast, cultured lactobacillus from the local cheese producer and combined it with Herefordshire’s best raspberries to produce a truly premium well-balanced ruby sour beer.”

The company stated that the Maravilla Sour can be best served with braised red meats, dry aged steaks, strong mature cheeses, and chocolate desserts.

Maravilla Sour along with the other two beers were launched at an event for members of the brewery’s Puritan scheme. This was followed by the general release of Maravilla Sour at the brewery’s shop.
