Stevens Point Brewery plans expansion
Wisconsin-based Stevens Point Brewery is set to expand its production capacity with an investment of around $1.1m to catch up with the demand.
The $1.1m investment includes installation of nine new fermentation tanks, two new bright beer tanks, a new 7,000-gallon hot water tank and a centrifuge for filtering finished beer.
The expansion allows Stevens Point Brewery to produce up to 120,000 barrels of beer annually, a 20% increase.
Stevens Point Brewery operating partner Joe Martino said since 2009 the company has invested around $1.5m in new equipment and additional storage space including addition of 6,600ft² of warehouse space, five aging tanks and three fermentation tanks in 2011, to increase capacity and improve efficiency.
The two new bright beer tanks for package release beer allow the brewmasters to brew six days per week instead of five. The company will install 120-barrel tanks, which holds finished beer ready for the bottle and can lines, by the end of February.
According to brewmaster Gabe Hopkins the nine new fermentation tanks, called as vertical fermentation 'unitanks', represent first for the company and will be installed in late March.
The centrifuge will be used to improve beer quality and production efficiencies, while the new hot water tank will be used to heat water at the beginning of the brewing process.
